What is CaFE

CaFE in Church of the Risen Christ was started in February 2006.
Mission of CaFE
The goals of CaFE are
to build
Discipleship
by helping our parishioners to get more enthusiastic about their faith in Jesus Christ;
to
Create and nourish small groups (Community)
where parishioners can share and grow together and
to
Empower our parishioners (Evangelisation)
to make more of a difference in the world around them.
Vision of CaFE
That we become a community of believers having one heart and mind with a singleness of purpose and a unity of spirit. (Acts 4:32, 1 Cor 1:10)
The first team of 12 members was commissioned on 5 February 2006. As of December 2006, the number grew to 39.
Fr. John Sim is the Spiritual Director.
Attending CaFE’s session is free but participants are most welcome to pop a donation in a basket to defray expenses incurred during the session. CaFE sessions are run on Tuesdays. The sessions are not conducted in a lecture style environment. Instead of parishioners sitting in rows in their parish hall, they sit at tables and are served snacks and light refreshments. They then watch a video together or listen to talks and discuss the subject matters. In this way, participants can further enhance their understanding and explore ways to use the knowledge learned in their daily lives.
Videos
CaFE video resources can be run as a process and by modules. Each module consists of 5 to 10 weeks of talk given by prominent speakers such as Fr. Raniero Cantalamessa, biblical scholar and Bishop Mark Coleridge and theologian Dr. Marcelino D’Ambrosio and Charles Whitehead. Each presentation includes stories of people's lives, icons, music, mime and practical tips on how to make Sunday Mass relevant to the challenges of marriage, family life and work. The video presentation at each week runs for about 35 minutes follow by group discussion of the content. Each session is not expected to last more than 2 hours. Examples of the modules: (to find out more details, click on the titles):-
Knowing God better
Knowing God Even better
Exploring the Catholic Church
Catholics making a difference
Bible courses
These courses may be presented in video or taught by our parish priests or priests from other parishes. The courses would help the individual to understand the Word of God; to listen to His Word and in so doing would strengthen and deepen their Spiritual life. Depending on the topic covered, these courses usually last for 8 to 10 weeks.
Movie spirituality
We are constantly bombarded with value systems depicted in movies and other forms of media. These movie spirituality sessions help us to discern what is presented and help us make correct value judgement and decisions based on our faith. The movies may range from action thrillers to those depicting lives of Saints.
